So I have been thinking about what makes me feel hip and/or hot that has nothing to do with what’s in the closet.
And it's music. A spiritual facelift.
Not any old music , but NEW music. Turn down the Laurie Berkner your toddlers are listening to, do NOT pull out any of the old sentimental Duran Duran albums of your youth. DO ask your babysitter what's on her Ipod, find a cool public radio station and stream it through your computer. (I like KCRW lately). Make a mix with music made in the last 5-10 years and go for a run, a drive, and whatever, and listen…
Here's one of mine:
What new music are you listening to?
I'm an unabashed pop fan, much to the chagrin of my husband - if it's played at pot-throwing frequency on local teeny-bopper stations, I love it. AND I like to secretly expose my kids to great deals of this schlock, though my work is quickly uncovered when they start singing word-perfect versions of "Bad Romance" at dinner. Even Denise's daughter, an inveterate performer, learned Pink's "So What" from a few drives home from preschool.
ReplyDeleteBut right now I really like that new Rihanna song, with the fire and whatnot.
I just was never that indie.
Jess
I love me some pop music, too, but the CD's I've bought lately are by Arcade Fire, Robert Francis, and The Avett Brothers. I also love The Airborne Toxic Event -- that one's a year or so old now but it's the first CD in years that I've become obsessed with. I played it so much in the car that my 18-month-old recognizes the songs. Lately she's requesting Raffi more and more, however...
