If You Show Me Yours...by MARY

(So you don't get bored of us, every week we post something sent to us by a reader or coerced out of friends and family. Could be a question, a letter, a poll, a picture...we're flexible. See below for this week's If You Show Me Yours post, and see the sidebar for info about how to participate!)

HIP N' HOT, errrr, uhh, MAYBE NOT?

If I had to guess, I would say that most 30 year olds, when questioning the age appropriateness of their wardrobes, would be asking themselves "Am I dressing too young for my age?" Well after a recent purchase, I began to question my own age appropriateness, but the question in MY head was "Am I dressing too old?" And I'm not talking 50-something old, I'm talking 80-something old. (Disclaimer: I DO NOT think 50 is old, ladies, it's the new 40...right?)

Yes, some of my clothes have a down right grandmotherly look to them, and I'm OK with that. I think. My husband laughed at a recent purchase, exclaiming that yes, it looked like something his grandmother would wear. This purchase, a mustard colored, slightly see- through shirt, caught my eye while shopping at the beach with my mom and sister. I noted the grandmotherly look of it at time of purchase, but went ahead and bought it anyway. Grandmas don't DO see through right? I happen to like it, but again, my husband just laughed.

Shirt in question: Spilt

This next item, a slightly retro looking cardigan, also has an old feel to it. Yes, old as in circa 1970-old, but also old as in perhaps a slightly pudgy grandmother living in 1970 should be wearing it old. I can almost picture her. . .with HER outdated glasses circa 1950.

Cardigan in question: Anthropologie

This blue short sleeved sweater with fun little
polka dots? Perhaps an older school marm should be wearing it, paired with a floor length jean skirt. Can you see her? Yard stick in hand as she weaves in and out of the desks around the room?

Sweater in question: Anthropologie

This next jacket, while not seasonally appropriate at the moment, is certainly post appropriate. Again, I'm picturing the school marm, in autumn, droning on about the
fall foliage outside.

Jacket in question: Free People

And finally, perhaps the worst offender, this lacy white top. This top not only looks like an eighty-something year old should be wearing it, but this frail old woman is wearing it to bed. Yes, it looks like the nightgown of an 82 year old. I can see this, and I vow not to wear it again. (Well, maybe tucked into a
high-waisted skirt??)

Shirt in question: Forever 21 (ha!)

So go ahead and tell me what you think. You won't hurt my feelings. I'm an old soul. I can take it.

  3. I appreciate the honesty ladies! I'm standing by #3 though. . .perhaps with skinny jeans and cute flats to give it a younger feel???? Maybe????

I think I'm with you on number 4. . .that will be going to goodwill.

And #5. . .I think I may like it if I style it up in a new way. With a belt perhaps?

    Thanks for the feedback!
