(So you don't get bored of us, every week we post something sent to us by a reader or coerced out of friends and family. Could be a question, a letter, a poll, a picture...we're flexible. See below for this week's If You Show Me Yours post, and see the sidebar for info about how to participate!)
IF THE SHOE FITS...
I first read this blog, just 4 weeks ago, holding my 2 week old daughter, and wearing, what else, yoga pants and a ratty t-shirt with milk stains galore from constantly leaking breasts. (And anyone who has ever breastfed knows what I am talking about) Needless to say, the blog hit home. With a now-6 week old, and an almost 3 year old, I am in the thick of it! Sometimes the drive to get dressed is overridden by the reality of milk stains, spit-up, and a VERY messy toddler. But I have always considered myself somewhat fashionable, and possessing a personal sense of style, and so, despite my messy toddler and hungry infant, I get dressed.
BUT, and this is a BIG but, barely anything I own fits me at the moment. At six weeks postpartum, not a single pair of pants fit, and with still 20 pounds to lose, it could be awhile before I am slipping into those favorite pair of "skinny jeans". So, what's a girl to do? Well, I've been wearing lots of stretchy cotton dresses, and taking the opportunity to focus on what DOES fit, rather than what does NOT. Here's what I've found:
Shoes are a gal's best friend, as they always seem to fit no matter what. Here's a small smattering of the shoes I've been wearing as of late, the cowboy boots on the far left being my current faves. I recently rocked them at the local playground, with a shortish plaid shirt dress, and got more than a few dirty looks from the other moms who were rocking THEIR Lilly Pulitzer.
Jewelry also never fails to fit (unless of course you are pregnant and puffy, and then rings may be out, as was the case for me this time around. Come to think of it, some shoes were out during pregnancy as well. Uggh.) But, as I am no longer preggo, I can wear my rings, as well as some fab necklaces to boot. I have a thing for birds, hence the owls and lovely birdie locket. The "coin" necklace is a fun little Target find.
All of my trusty cardigans fit at the moment as well, and are perfect for this spring weather when a dress can certainly be accompanied by a cute little sweater. I have them in a variety of colors: royal blue, red, green, white, gray, and of course, this lovely canary yellow.
And finally, I've been sporting this fantastic hat on sunny days. I've been in search of a hat for YEARS that I really like, and it's proven to be no simple task. I found this hat at a local gardening shop just a couple of weeks ago. It even got the OK from my husband, who tends to scoff at my hat purchases. As a side note, don't my lips look fabulously shiny? That's lansinoh cream for all of you breast feeding mamas out there! It gives them a nice little sheen, and keeps them from getting chapped!
Admittedly, there are days when we have no plans and are lounging around the house, and I can still be found in yoga pants and a t-shirt. And on those days the 6 week old is looking far more fashionista than her mama.
Mary, you always look gorgeous! And I love the hat!
ReplyDeleteYou're inspiring me to take another look at the things that DO fit. My baby boy is six months and I've lost most of the weight but my new shape is totally unfamiliar. Thanks Mary!
ReplyDeleteYour positive outlook is great.
